SSEP PROJECT

This is a four-year Asian Development Bank (ADB) project (2001- 2005) worth $132 million, of which the ADB loan is $57 million, to support 42 professional colleges and 3 academic lyceums. CEC are providing 19 international and 13 local consultants plus office staff and two offices, one in CSSE, one in IDSSE.

The Project supports the aims of the President's National Program for Personnel Training (NPPT), i.e. the establishment of an education system to provide the skills and knowledge that students need for a market oriented economy. It has four components:

1 Development of 45 project colleges and lyceums
This component supports implementation and refinement of the new SSE curriculum.

2 School director and teacher development

This component will
  • develop capacity of the IDSSE in planning, design, and management of in-service teacher training, including new training methodologies and approaches;
  • develop and implement training programmes and longer-term professional development plans for SSE directors and teachers;
  • pilot distance education programmes for upgrading teacher s� skills.

3 Development of instructional materials
This component supports the development of teaching and learning materials for the new curriculum, including:

  • the training of potential writers;
  • capacity building work with the CSSVE Textbook and Standards Departments and publishers;

4 Sub-sector planning, management, and policy development
This component supports the development of appropriate systems to provide planning, management, and policy options for the sustainable development of the SSE system
